2023 was another busy year for the Raheny Tidy Village Group. We want to thank our brilliant volunteers and other community organisations in Raheny for their hard work and support.

Community Garden
This year we start a Community Garden! It is located in the grounds of Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace church in the centre of Raheny village.
Our vision for the garden is is an organic, biodiverse and sustainable space for all ages and abilities with as many native plant species as possible.
It is open most Saturdays from 10.30 - 11.30, so come along and visit. After your visit, you might even be inspired to sign up as a volunteer!
We are very grateful to the church for the use of the grounds.

Litter Management & Village Clean-ups
We continued our regular clean-ups of Raheny’s streets and foot paths, and planted and maintained hundreds of plants around the village around the village.

River Clean
We carried out several river cleans of the Santy River during the year. We collected many bags of rubbish from the river from Lough Derg to Main Street, with additional litter picking along the Coast Road. Our monthly river sampling also took place. Unfortunately the river score remains poor which means pollution. We will continue to work hard to monitor and improve our beautiful river.

Mural
We commissioned a mural for the DART laneway, generously funded by Iarnrod Eireann. James Kirwan has painted several murals around Ireland and we feel very lucky to have him working on this project. You can see more of James Kirwan's work here. A special thanks to the community for your overwhelming support with this project and your feedback during our consultations. Thank you also to Dublin City Council for their usual support!
We think the mural will definitely enhance the area..

🌻 Tallest Sunflower Competition
Congratulations to this year's winners of the Sunflower competition! The first prize was sponsored by SuperValu, Raheny and went to Anja, Orla and Fionn (and Oisin not pictured). The second prize was sponsored by McHugh's and went to Nicola, Neasa and Ciara.
Thanks to everyone that participated. Make sure to save your seeds for next year
🌊 Beach Clean
In September, we joined forces with Clean Coasts for the Bull Island Beach Clean, supporting marine litter tracking.
Litter was collected, categorized, and reported as part of a national coastal health survey.
Volunteers braved the sands and winds to protect one of Dublin’s most precious natural habitats.
